Alphabet of Gratitude
The practice of noticing life’s gifts — both ordinary and extraordinary — one letter at a time, weaving them into an alphabet that reminds us of how much is already here.
Reflection 🌿
Gratitude can be as vast as oceans and as small as a quip or a quilt. When we gather thankfulness letter by letter, we begin to see that life’s fullness isn’t in grand gestures alone but in the delicate, everyday threads that weave us whole. This A–Z list reminds us that gratitude can stretch from the ordinary to the extraordinary — grilled cheese sandwiches to God, bilbo baggins to belonging, jokes to justice.
When we pause to notice, we discover that life is already alphabetized with quiet wonders waiting to be acknowledged.
Journal Questions
Which of these words stirred something in you — a smile, a memory, a longing? Why?
If you wrote your own gratitude A–Z, which words would appear that aren’t on this list?
What’s one “small” gratitude (like grilled cheese or dangly earrings) that secretly carries a much deeper meaning for you?
Which letter of the alphabet feels most like your heart today — and why?
Exercise — Alphabet of Gratitude
Take a blank page and write A through Z down the left-hand side.
Without pressure, begin to fill in each letter with something you’re thankful for. Don’t worry if some letters stay blank — sometimes the gaps are as telling as the filled spaces.
Afterward, read your list out loud. Notice which words feel heavy, light, surprising, or deeply yours.
Optional: repeat this practice once a season to see how your alphabet of gratitude changes with time.
Closing Thought
Gratitude is not a destination but an alphabet — one we keep rewriting as we grow, heal, and rediscover what matters. Every letter is an invitation to remember that beauty, belonging, and blessing are always within reach.
